About Handel's Homemade Ice Cream
In 1945, Alice Handel served her first scoops of homemade ice cream in Youngstown, Ohio, using fresh fruit from her garden and recipes she created herself. What began as a small backyard tradition quickly became a beloved neighborhood staple β and the foundation of Handelβs Ice Cream.
At Handelβs Chula Vista, weβre proud to carry on Aliceβs legacy. Every batch is made fresh, by hand, right here on site β just like she did it. With each scoop, weβre bringing her commitment to quality, flavor, and community to life.
Weβre thrilled to be part of the Chula Vista neighborhood and honored to serve you β one scoop at a time.

I had a small sugar cone of the dark chocoholic with chocolate chips. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the flavor and quality of the dark chocolate ice cream. Talk about deep rich chocolate flavor. Not only was the ice cream super creamy and smooth, but it was also deep in chocolate flavor. If the dark chocolate ice was not enough, the chocolate chips in the ice were great too, and offered an additional burst of chocolate in the mouth. If you are a chocolate lover like me, this one is for you. The hospitality was good. The you lady at the counter, although a little shy, she was very soft spoken and very nice. This location offers a couple of metal benches inside and a good amount of tables outside.

I went into this shop today for evening snack. The shop was busy, and patrons were eating product's inside and outside the shop. I ordered the medium mint chocolate chip in a bowl. I have a hunch this shop makes their ice cream in house. The flavour from the mint ice cream, was very rich in flavour. For the price you pay for the premium ice creamβI encourage you too visit this shop at least once! Determine if this shop ice cream is down your alley! I liked it, wonderful job!

Our family's go to place. Large portions and staff is always friendly. They have a lot of options for ice cream flavors, they have sundaes, hurricanes, sandwiches, and pops. You can also get a four flavor sampler if you can't choose. They have sorbet that are non-dairy and even frozen treats you can purchase for dogs. Our dog loves hers for her birthday. Great place in the community, a must visit! We even take out of town visitors here and they always love it.

Great quality, tasty ice cream with variety of flavors. Very clean place. There's a sitting area outside as well which is a plus to enjoy your ice cream before it melts. It's on the pricey side but for the quality, the prices are comparable to cold stone...fair since it'd be hard to find cheaper prices for that same quality. We had the smores and the pecan praline flavors....delicious! I'd cut the sugar in half though and it'd be even better.

Handel's Homemade Ice Cream in Chula Vista is good, but it didn't quite live up to the high standard I'm used to from the Texas location. Back home, the ice cream is always top-notch, and the staff is friendly and efficient. Unfortunately, here the ice cream just didn't hit the same--flavors felt a little off and not as fresh. The staff was also a bit chaotic, which took away from the overall experience. Don't get me wrong, it's still solid ice cream, but compared to my usual spot in Texas, it wasn't as up to par. Still worth a try if you're in the area, but I'm giving it 4 stars.
